HelSec June 2026 Ghidra and Firmware reverse engineering workshop
We are excited to invite you to our Introduction to Ghidra and Firmware reverse engineering workshop on Saturday, June 13th!
The workshop is mainly aimed at beginners, but will also contain practical training for firmware projects if you already have some Ghidra experience. As the aim is to teach the basics, it is advisable to keep AI usage low.
Bring a laptop with a up-to-date install of Ghidra (12.0.4 currently). Some familiarity on reading C-like code is expected. For the most part we will be using the decompilers C-like output.
Outline of the workshop:
1. Short introduction to the target and some general advice
2. Hands on project setup with Ghidra
3. Hands on work with the binary; some guiding questions and hints will be provided, guidance available
4. Wrap up with the general flow, some additional resources, few words about AI assisted reverse engineering.

In this workshop we will be using a firmware from a 6809 CPU based device. For a good introduction on how a CPU and a 6809 works, it is recommended to
read chapters 1 and 2 from here: https://colorcomputerarchive.com/repo/Documents/Books/Programming%20the%206809%20(Rodney%20Zaks%20and%20William%20Labiak)%20(alt).pdf. Reading at least pages 103 - 120 of the chapter 4 is also highly recommended.
A condensed list of machine instructions for 6809 is available here: https://www.chibiakumas.com/6809/CheatSheet.pdf
Trainer bio:
